CARI POULTRY SEMEN DILUENT Poultry semen is highly concentrated viscus fluid containing 6 b (roosters) to 12 b (toms) spermatozoa per ml and has a very low volume. After ejaculation, the spermatozoa begin to die rapidly due to dehydration owing to evaporation of water at room temperature. The process continues until semen is diluted and stored at low temperature. The diluents are essential for poultry semen in order to: • Increase the semen volume. • Increase the number of birds that can be inseminated, • Ensure uniform distribution of spermatozoa in the diluent, thereby making artificial insemination (A.I.) in poultry, easier and more effective. • Prolong the sperm survivability for both short and long term preservation of semen in vitro.
